Biography

Karen Forbes is an Associate Professor of Language Education at the University of Cambridge and a Language Education Fellow at Homerton College. She has previously taught modern languages in secondary schools across England after completing her MEd and PhD in Language Education at the University of Cambridge. Her current research interests encompass school language policies, multilingual identity development, and the transfer of language learning strategies. Karen is the Principal Investigator of a British Academy funded project which investigates language policies in linguistically diverse secondary schools in the UK. She has been published in various journals such as the International Journal of Multilingualism and has served on the editorial board of the Cambridge Journal of Education. At the University, Karen teaches and supervises a diverse range of courses in the Faculty of Education, including the MPhil/MEd Research in Language Education, postgraduate research methods courses, and PhD/EdD supervision. She fosters a vibrant community for doctoral students, encouraging inquiries related to multilingualism and language education.
