Karinne Ramirez-Amaro is an Associate Professor in Systems Control at Chalmers University of Technology since April 2022. She became an Assistant Professor in the Chalmers research group on Mechatronics in 2019. Previously, she served as a post-doctoral researcher in the Chair of Cognitive Systems at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). Karinne completed her Ph.D. in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at TUM in Germany, graduating summa cum laude in 2015. She was a member of the Intelligent Autonomous Systems group led by Professor Michael Beetz from October 2009 to December 2012. She received her Master’s degree in Computer Science (with honours) from the Center for Computing Research at the National Polytechnic Institute (CIC-IPN) in Mexico City in 2007. Karinne has been honored with several awards, including the Laura Bassi Award from the Bavarian government to conduct a one-year research project in December 2015 and the award for excellent Doctoral degree female engineering students in September 2015. Additionally, she was granted the Ph.D. research scholarship from DAAD – CONACYT and received the Google Anita Borg Scholarship in 2011. Her research interests include Artificial Intelligence, Semantic Representations, Assistive Robotics, Expert Systems, and Human Activity Recognition and Understanding.
