Dr. Katherine Mason

Biography

Katherine Mason is the Associate Dean for Faculty Development at the Warren Alpert School of Medicine at Brown University. She serves as Vice Chair for Education in the Department of Pediatrics and is a Professor of Pediatric Critical Care and Pediatrics at Hasbro Children’s Hospital. Her research focuses primarily on developing practices in medical education, including learner assessment, professionalism, and educator professional development, with a strong emphasis on advocacy for clinician educators. She has published extensively in fields such as critical care, end-of-life care, and disaster medicine. Dr. Mason has held several national leadership roles in medical education, including Chair of the Fellowship Directors and Vice Chair of Executive Committees for the Association of Pediatric Program Directors. She has been honored for her lifetime contributions to medical education, receiving the Robert S. Holm Leadership Award in 2021 and being inducted into the Academic Pediatric Society in 2022. Additionally, she became a member of the National Academy of Distinguished Educators in Pediatrics in 2023. Dr. Mason completed her Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine program at Drexel University in 2025, along with her undergraduate studies in Biomedical Ethics and Biology at Brown University and her medical degree from the Alpert Medical School of Brown University. She also completed her Pediatric Residency, Chief Residency, and Critical Care Fellowship at Case Western Reserve University Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital.
