Biography

Kathryn Lowe is a Senior Lecturer specializing in Old Middle English within the School of Critical Studies at the University of Glasgow. She serves as a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries and is a member of the International Advisory Board for the Dictionary of Old English project, as well as a council member of the Early English Text Society. Her teaching focuses on subjects including Old Middle English language and literature, Old Icelandic, and the history of the English language and manuscript studies. Dr. Lowe is currently working on a new edition of Anglo-Saxon charters related to Bury St Edmunds, which will contribute to the Anglo-Saxon Charters Series published by Oxford University Press and is sponsored by the British Academy and the Royal Historical Society. Her research interests lie primarily in Old English language and literature, charter studies, and historical literacy, with a particular focus on the textual transmission of Old to Middle English. She previously directed the Glasgow Centre for Medieval and Renaissance Studies and held positions on various boards related to Viking studies and Anglo-Saxonism. Dr. Lowe has also contributed to the Linguistic Atlas of Early Middle English and has been involved in projects funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
