Biography

Katie Cebula is a Senior Lecturer in Developmental Psychology at the University of Edinburgh, where she also serves as Director of the Salvesen Mindroom Research Centre. She has earned a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Psychology and a PhD from the University of Edinburgh, with her doctoral research focusing on the socio-cognitive development of children with developmental disabilities. Cebula's work initially included a research fellowship on an MRC-funded project investigating children's understanding of emotional expressions, particularly among those with Down's syndrome and fragile X syndrome. In 2004, she embarked on a Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship to explore sibling relationships of autistic children and has held an academic position at the Moray House School of Education and Sport since 2005. Cebula is a Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society and has a keen interest in supervising doctoral research in various areas related to neurodivergent children's experiences and developmental psychology. She has published numerous papers and supervised several PhD students focusing on topics such as executive function in children, listening opportunities for children on the autism spectrum, and the psychological adjustment of siblings of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
