Biography

Kavita Kapadia Matsko is an associate professor and associate dean of teacher education in the School of Education and Social Policy at Northwestern University. With 25 years of experience in the field of education in the Chicagoland area, she has worn multiple hats including teacher, mentor, teacher educator, residency director, and researcher. Her research interests primarily focus on the study of teacher education, mentoring, and new teacher induction, with a particular emphasis on clinical features that prepare teachers for equitable teaching. She is currently involved in research projects exploring mentor teachers’ tacit beliefs about student-teacher learning and the role of context in teacher education. Matsko and her colleagues received the 2022 Outstanding Article Award from the Journal of Teacher Education for their work on the Chicago Teaching Pathways project. Before joining Northwestern University, she was an associate professor and director of innovation research at the National College of Education at National Louis University in Chicago and served as a founding director of the Urban Teacher Education Program at the University of Chicago.
