Biography

Kelly Bronson holds the Canada Research Chair in Science & Society at the University of Ottawa where she is an Assistant Professor of Sociology. With a diverse academic background in biology and social sciences, Kelly studies the tensions that arise from controversial technologies such as genetically modified organisms (GMOs), fracking, and big data in artificial intelligence (AI). Her work aims to bring public needs and concerns into evidence-informed policy-making while investigating the societal and environmental justice impacts of these technologies. Kelly publishes her work in interdisciplinary journals including the Journal of Responsible Innovation and Big Data & Society, and her recent books include Immaculate Conception of Data (MQUP, 2022) and Smartification of Everything (University of Toronto, 2025).
