Biography

Kelly Skinner is an Associate Professor at the University of Waterloo in the School of Public Health Sciences. Her research focuses primarily on community-based health social projects concerning food, nutrition, food security, and the broader context of food systems environments. Kelly has worked extensively with people living in northern locations in Canada and with Indigenous organizations in urban settings. Her work has included dietary assessments of youth, program evaluations, and community development. Recently, she has moved towards social justice and social policy, advocating for improved food security and food sovereignty. Additionally, her research interests include the development of tools to assess knowledge exchange between knowledge producers (e.g., researchers) and knowledge users (e.g., practitioners). Kelly is also involved in graduate supervision and is currently accepting applications from graduate students whose research interests align with her areas of expertise, including evaluation of health programs, Northern food systems, food security, Indigenous health, nutrition, and health promotion.
