Biography

Kendra Hearn serves the Marsal Family School of Education as Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education and Educator Preparation Programs, as well as Chair of Secondary Teacher Education and Clinical Associate Professor. She currently teaches graduate courses in secondary English methods and education leadership. Her scholarship focuses on teaching in urban contexts, particularly in secondary English/literacy, as well as educational/instructional leadership and school improvement. Before her tenure at the Marsal Family School of Education, Kendra had a storied career as an education practitioner, serving as assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction in the West Bloomfield School District and previously as curriculum director in Ypsilanti. Her teaching background includes being a high school English language arts teacher in both West Bloomfield and Detroit Public Schools. Kendra earned her BA in English and MA in education administration from the University of Michigan and University of Detroit Mercy, respectively. She completed her PhD at Wayne State University, focusing on reflective writing in adolescent learners. Kendra is also a National Board Certified teacher and a Fulbright Scholar, recognized with several prestigious awards throughout her career.
