Dr. Kenneth Dodge

Biography

Kenneth Dodge, William McDougall Distinguished Professor of Public Policy, is affiliated with the Sanford School of Public Policy and the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience at Duke University. Renowned for his pioneering research on aggression and violence in child development, he has authored over 500 scientific articles and is a significant contributor to understanding how early interventions can mitigate aggressive behaviors in children. Dr. Dodge is the founding director of the Family Connects program, an evidence-based initiative that supports families of newborns by connecting them with community resources to improve maternal mental health and child well-being. His work emphasizes the importance of early intervention in preventing costly societal consequences of violence. As a clinical developmental psychologist trained at Northwestern University and Duke University, Dodge has garnered numerous accolades, including election to the National Academy of Medicine. His expansive research interests encompass development and prevention of antisocial behavior, the influence of parenting on child outcomes, and cross-cultural studies on socialization practices.
