Dr. Kenneth Nelson

Biography

Professor Kenneth Nelson holds the Barnett Professorship of Social Policy at the Department of Social Policy and Intervention, University of Oxford since April 2023. He previously served as a Professor of Sociology at Stockholm University. His research primarily focuses on the drivers and consequences of welfare states and social policy, employing comparative research methods. Professor Nelson has authored many publications on topics such as social policy, partisan politics, poverty, social inequality, health, intergenerational justice, and employment. He is the director of the internationally recognized Social Policy Indicators Database (SPIN) and serves as a co-chair of the European Social Policy Analysis network (ESPAnet), which is the largest international research community on social policy in Europe and globally. Additionally, he is an active expert for the Foundation International Studies of Social Security (FISS) and the European Social Policy Analysis Network (ESPAN), supported by the European Commission.
