Biography

Kerry Greer is an Associate Professor of Teaching in the Department of Sociology at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. Kerry was born and raised in rural upstate New York and attended the University of Portland in Oregon, where he earned a B.A. in Philosophy. He subsequently obtained an M.S. in Sociology from Portland State University and a Ph.D. in Sociology from Indiana University. At UBC, Kerry works to enhance opportunities for experiential learning within his courses and the department, supporting students' transitions to university and helping to develop resources for guiding students in their future careers. As the Undergraduate Chair, he oversees the Undergraduate Peer Advising Program, coordinating workshops that provide insights into applying for graduate and professional programs. His primary focus is on ensuring Sociology majors acquire the necessary tools and skills to successfully transition into graduate studies or the labor market. During the academic terms, Kerry teaches courses such as SOCI 371 Classical Traditions of Theory, SOCI 100 Introduction to Sociology, SOCI 301 Sociology of Development and Underdevelopment, and SOCI 414 Feminist Theory, among others.
