Dr. Kevin Gee

Biography

Professor Kevin Gee is a Chancellor's Fellow at the University of California, Davis, in the School of Education. His research primarily focuses on educational policy and the systemic inequities affecting disadvantaged youth, particularly in the context of school absenteeism, bullying, and other structural adversities. Dr. Gee employs rigorous quantitative methodologies, including Hierarchical Linear Modeling and longitudinal studies, to generate data-informed insights. His scholarly work has been published in notable journals such as Early Childhood Research Quarterly, Pediatrics, and Teachers College Record. He has received various accolades, including the National Academy Education/Spencer Postdoctoral Fellowship and the Outstanding Professor Award from Brown University. Dr. Gee is also a faculty research affiliate with the Center for Poverty and Inequality Research at UC Davis and has established the School Policy, Action, Research Center to advocate for educational wellbeing among vulnerable youth, including Asian American and Pacific Islander populations. He has authored several influential publications addressing chronic absenteeism and the impacts of social circumstances on educational outcomes. Dr. Gee holds a Ph.D. in Quantitative Policy Analysis in Education from Harvard University, alongside degrees from UC Berkeley and UC San Diego, which provide him with a strong foundation in education policy.
