Dr. Kevin Joiner

Biography

Kevin Joiner is an Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan School of Nursing, specializing in health behavior and clinical sciences. His research focuses on developing and evaluating innovative strategies to prevent diabetes and reduce the stigma experienced by individuals living with the disease, particularly within Hispanic/Latino and historically underserved communities. Utilizing mixed quantitative and qualitative methodologies, Dr. Joiner designs studies and intervention trials that examine the social factors influencing health behaviors and program participation. He has led an American Diabetes Association-funded study to advance diabetes prevention practices and create training modules for healthcare providers addressing communication barriers. His contributions to the national and international dialogues on diabetes prevention and provider practices are significant, including co-authoring a landmark international consensus statement on ending diabetes stigma discrimination.
