Dr. Kien Nguyen

Biography

Kien Van Nguyen is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Fenner School of Environment and Society at the Australian National University (ANU) with significant experience in sustainable agriculture, organic food systems, and climate change adaptation in the Mekong Region. He has served as an honorary senior lecturer and is adjunct associate professor at Griffith University and adjunct senior research fellow at the University of New England. His research focuses on the intersection of agricultural sustainability, food systems, and community resilience, with a particular emphasis on the impact of social capital in the livelihoods of rural households in the Vietnamese Mekong River Delta. Kien's academic journey culminated in a PhD in Sociology from ANU, during which he explored the factors influencing household resilience to floods. He has successfully led numerous international research projects, fostering collaborations among researchers, governments, NGOs, and local sectors to enhance sustainable agricultural practices. Kien has also been instrumental in promoting organic farming initiatives and agricultural education, significantly contributing to the development of sustainable food systems in the Mekong Region. His work involves innovative methodologies for stakeholder engagement and the promotion of ecological-organic practices, thus ensuring effective integration of research with real-world applications.
