Biography

Kongji Qin is an Associate Professor in Language Education at NYU Steinhardt. His research focuses on addressing inequality in language literacy education for immigrant youth in U.S. schools. Drawing from critical race theories, gender studies, and discourse analysis, his work seeks to understand the intersections of language, pedagogy, identity, and justice. Qin's research programs involve studying the relationship between identity, gender, and racialization in language learning, equity-based instruction, and antiracist pedagogy. His current project centers on addressing inequalities in language education through critical participatory action research, specifically aimed at immigrant learners in K-12 classrooms. Supported by the National Academy of Education/Spencer Postdoctoral Fellowship in 2022, his findings are published in key peer-reviewed journals such as the Modern Language Journal and Urban Education. Qin is also looking to accept new doctoral students for the 2026-2027 academic year, with a focus on preparing them to work in diverse linguistic and educational backgrounds in K–12 settings.
