Dr. Kristi Jauregi Ondarra

Biography

Kristi Jauregi Ondarra is an Associate Professor and Senior Researcher at Utrecht University. Her research focuses on the innovative integration of digital technologies in language education, with a specific emphasis on the interrelated domains of online intercultural collaborative projects, virtual exchange, and their educational value in language curricula. She has explored the transformative potential of advanced technologies such as Virtual Reality for language acquisition and intercultural learning. Kristi is the initiator and project leader of multiple research initiatives funded by the European Commission, including the E-LIVE project, which aims to integrate Virtual Exchange into schools and teacher training programs. Her previous projects like TeCoLa and TILA have pioneered the use of video communication and gamified telecollaboration in secondary education. Additionally, she has played significant roles in various academic boards, including serving as an editorial board member for leading journals in her field. Her leadership in efforts to enhance language education quality has included participation in national programs and holding positions such as Chair of the EuroCALL Special Interest Group on Virtual Worlds & Serious Games.
