Biography

Kyla Caners is an Associate Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Queen's University. She completed her residency in Emergency Medicine at McMaster University, where she worked for five years in Hamilton before moving to Kingston. Dr. Caners also earned a Clinician Educator Diploma from the Royal College, focusing on Medical Education. During her residency, she designed and implemented a simulation component for McMaster's FRCPC Emergency Medicine training program. She subsequently served for four years as the Director of Simulation and as the Assistant Director of Patient Safety at the Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster. Dr. Caners is the creator of the simulation blog emsimcases.com, which provides open-access, peer-reviewed emergency medicine simulation cases. Her research interests lie at the intersection of simulation and quality improvement, and she greatly enjoys designing and implementing simulation-based educational experiences tailored to the needs of specific groups. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, cycling, and pretending to be a good runner.
