Biography

L.A. Paul is a Professor of Philosophy at Yale University, specializing in cognitive science and metaphysics. She explores various questions regarding the nature of self, decision-making, and temporal experience, along with philosophical methodology, causation, and the perception of time. Her notable works include the book 'Transformative Experience', published by Oxford University Press, and 'Causation: User’s Guide' co-authored with Ned Hall, which won the Sanders Book Prize from the American Philosophical Association in 2014. Paul held the Eugene Falk Distinguished Professorship at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill before her current position at Yale. She received her Ph.D. from Princeton University in 1999, and her research focuses on the intersection of philosophy and cognitive science, addressing deep questions about human experience and understanding.
