Biography

Larry Griffing is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology at Texas A&M University, where he joined in 1986. His research integrates aspects of plant cell biology, particularly the study of biological timing and resilience. Griffing's areas of interest encompass the endoplasmic reticulum and its interaction with the cytoskeletal system, particularly within plant cells. He is particularly focused on cytoplasmic streaming, a process that facilitates organelle movement within cells. His work involves computational modeling to understand the flow of the endoplasmic reticulum and its complex organizational structure. He has collaborated with computational scientists to model this flow dynamically and has been involved in educational programs that promote inquiry-based science education. Griffith is also the author of the textbook 'Imaging Life', which covers digital imaging in biological contexts. He holds a B.S. in Biology from the University of Utah and a Ph.D. from Stanford University. Additionally, Griffing has been actively involved in various committees including the American Society of Plant Biologists and has developed educational modules for PlantingScience.org.
