Larry Knopp began his career as acting principal trumpet for the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra at age 20 and has held positions as principal trumpet with various orchestras including the London Orchestra, Hamilton Philharmonic, and Malaysia Philharmonic Orchestra. He is currently the principal trumpet of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. Larry has performed and recorded with prestigious orchestras such as the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic. He obtained his Master’s degree from Northwestern University, where he played with the Chicago Civic Orchestra and studied under Vincent Cichowicz. He has also completed academic work towards his Doctoral degree at the Eastman School of Music, studying with Barbara Butler. As an educator and conductor, Larry possesses a Bachelor of Education degree and has directed ensembles at junior high and university levels. He has held appointments as a visiting Professor of trumpet at both Eastman School of Music and Northwestern University School of Music. Larry actively participates as a clinician across North America and Asia, and is a faculty member at summer festivals, attracting numerous students while teaching at the University of British Columbia and the Vancouver Academy of Music. Larry is a Yamaha artist and teaches private lessons in trumpet.
