Biography

Larry Salzmann is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. He received his dental degree from Northwestern University Dental School in 1979 and completed a Certificate Program in Pediatric Dentistry at Primary Children’s Medical Center, Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1982. Dr. Salzmann began his full-time teaching career at Northwestern University Dental School in 1982 and was granted Emeritus status in 2001 when the school closed. He subsequently joined the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry as the Predoctoral Program Director for Pediatric Dentistry before coming to the University of Michigan in Fall 2016. His scholarly interests include educational methodology, curricular development, dental informatics, pulp biology, and HIV/AIDS. He has been actively involved in curricular changes, grant opportunities, and orchestrating community dental rotations for students, focusing on primary target populations including migrant farm workers and individuals living with HIV/AIDS. Dr. Salzmann has participated in various university, local, and national committees throughout his career and has received numerous awards and recognitions for faculty achievement, as well as from students and alumni. He also maintained a private practice in Chicago for twenty years.
