Dr. Lars Erik Malmberg

Biography

Lars-Erik Malmberg is a Professor of Quantitative Methods in Education at the Department of Education, University of Oxford. He began his career as a primary school teacher in Finland and later became a Docent in Education with a particular focus on quantitative methods at Åbo Akademi University in Vasa, Finland, where he earned his Doctorate of Education. Malmberg completed his post-doctoral studies at Yale University and has held a prestigious Research Councils UK academic fellowship from 2007 to 2012. He has authored over 70 publications, including peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and reports. From 2018 to 2021, he served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Learning Instruction. His current research interests include intrapersonal approaches to learning processes and modeling intrapersonal data. Malmberg has published works on the effects of education, child care, and parenting on developmental and educational outcomes, as well as on teacher development. He utilizes advanced quantitative models to investigate substantial research questions in education and has completed an ESRC-funded seminar series titled 'Network on Intrapersonal Research Education.' He is open to doctoral applications from students interested in research areas such as students’ interpersonal learning experiences and the quality of student-teacher interaction.
