Biography

Laura Illia obtained her PhD in Communication from the Università della Svizzera Italiana (CH). She has worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Cambridge and the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and lectured from 2006 to 2008. From 2008 to 2019, Laura was a professor at IE University in Madrid, where she directed the Master’s program in Corporate Marketing Communication. Her research focuses on how discourses and narratives contribute to the understanding of business, particularly regarding issues of legitimacy, corporate reputation, and corporate social responsibility. She applies new digital methods such as machine learning to analyze large datasets and the ways organizations use new media to engage with stakeholders. Her work has been published in notable journals including the MIT Sloan Management Review, the Journal of Business Ethics, and the Journal of Management Inquiry. Throughout her academic career, Laura has won numerous grants, including a post-doc fellowship from the Swiss National Science Foundation and several regional and private grants to support her research initiatives.
