Biography

Laura Illia obtained her PhD in Communication from Università della Svizzera Italiana. She has served as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Cambridge and the London School of Economics and Political Science, and lectured from 2006 to 2008. From 2008 to 2019, Laura was a professor at IE University in Madrid, where she directed the Master’s program in Corporate Marketing Communication. Her research focuses on how discourses and narratives contribute to the understanding of business, particularly in relation to legitimacy and corporate social responsibility. She applies new digital methods and machine learning to analyze extensive datasets on how organizations legitimize themselves and engage with stakeholders through new media. Her work has been published in prestigious journals including MIT Sloan Management Review, Journal of Business Ethics, British Journal of Management, and Journal of Management Inquiry. Throughout her academic career, she has received numerous grants including a post-doctoral fellowship from the Swiss National Science Foundation, and research grants from IABC, JCYL, UniCredit Universities Foundation, and BBVA Foundation.
