Biography

Laura MacDonald is an associate professor in the School of Dental Hygiene, Dr. Gerald Niznick College of Dentistry, at the University of Manitoba. She began her teaching career at the University of Manitoba in 1986 and has committed herself to serving populations with limited access to oral health care. Her background includes experience as a dental hygienist in various settings, including periodontal practices, remote communities, and personal care homes. MacDonald emphasizes teaching excellence and strives to innovate effective teaching and learning strategies that provide students with authentic professional experiences. She has actively participated in interprofessional education and collaboration in health and is currently the College Lead at the RFHS Office of Interprofessional Collaboration. MacDonald has served as the past president of the Manitoba Dental Hygienists Association and is involved with the Canadian Dental Hygienists Association's Research Advisory Board, along with other working groups in the dental hygiene profession. She has received numerous teaching and service awards throughout her career.
