Dr. Laura Moss

Biography

Laura Moss is a Professor in the Department of English Language and Literatures at the University of British Columbia (UBC), where she specializes in Canadian postcolonial literatures with a particular focus on African literature. Her current research focuses on the intersection of climate change and environmental activism, as evidenced in her project 'Climate Warnings: Power Canadian Environmental Art, Literature, Creative Activism.' Moss has held several leadership roles at UBC, including Associate Dean, Students for the Faculty of Arts, and has served as a representative on the UBC Senate. She has been awarded the Brenda David McLean Chair in Canadian Studies and is a former editor-in-chief of the journal Canadian Literature. Moss has published numerous articles and edited several books on topics ranging from public arts policy in Canada to contemporary literary pedagogy. She has also engaged in the academic community as an Academic Convenor for the Congress of Social Sciences and Humanities. Throughout her career, she has received accolades such as the UBC Killam Teaching Prize in 2013. Her courses cover diverse subjects, including Canadian Literature, Postcolonial Studies, and Multicultural Canadian Literature.
