Biography

Dr. Rizzolo received his Ph.D. in biochemistry from Duke University in 1977 and underwent postdoctoral training in biochemistry at Harvard Medical School and cell biology at New York University School of Medicine. He joined the Yale faculty in 1993, serving as Director of the Medical Sciences Section in Anatomy and Course Director for Human Anatomy Development. Rizzolo developed the 'Anatomy Clinic', an online guide for training clinical students, which is used worldwide. He holds joint appointments in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science and the Yale Stem Cell Center. His current research focuses on stem cell approaches to studying retinal degenerations, including age-related macular degeneration. He is a Fellow of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology and serves on editorial boards for Anatomical Sciences Education and Molecular Vision. Rizzolo has contributed to various curricular developments and has adapted his innovative teaching methods to improve medical education. His research areas include anatomy, curriculum development, epithelial cells, and retinal studies.
