Tawnshi kiya! I am a Métis/Cree nurse originally from the Qu’appelle Valley in Saskatchewan. My journey began with my graduation from the University of Saskatchewan in the 1980s, and I have predominantly worked in the health sector for Indigenous Nations. Since 1995, I have been a conscientious visitor to Coast Salish lands, raising my sons with a strong community involvement with the Quw’utsun peoples of Cowichan Valley. Throughout my career, I have focused on nursing education, which includes preceptorships, course development, and collaborative land-based learning. I am currently completing my dissertation, which aims to deepen the understanding of Indigenous methodologies and their application in nursing education, specifically focusing on addressing Indigenous-specific racism in practice environments. I hold a position as a community-engaged faculty member with interests in Indigenous wellness, mentorship, and transformative educational strategies.
