Biography

Lee Bartel is a Professor Emeritus in Music Education with a focus on Music Health at the University of Toronto. He is the Founding Director of the Music Health Research Collaboratory (MaHRC) and serves as the Director of the Canadian Music Education Research Centre. Bartel has extensive academic and practical experience in music, having taught courses such as Music and the Brain and Social Psychology of Music. He is also a member of multiple collaborative programs, including the Neuroscience Collaborative Program (CPIN) and has cross-appointments with the Institute of Life Course and Aging and the Rehabilitation Science Institute. His research spans various areas including cognition, social psychology in music, curriculum development, and international education issues. Bartel has contributed significantly to music education research, including 60 albums for Fisher Price and over 24 albums under the Solitudes SonicAid project. He has been nominated for 3 Juno Awards and has received multiple accolades for his music, including Platinum and Gold Albums in both Canada and the USA. Bartel is currently researching the effects of pulsed sound stimulation on cognitive function and its applications in treating conditions such as long COVID and pain relief.
