Dr. Linda Sax

Biography

Linda J. Sax is a Professor at the UCLA School of Education and Information Studies and the Founding Director of Momentum: Accelerating Equity Computing Technology. She holds a B.A. degree in Political Economy from UC Berkeley, an M.A., and a Ph.D. in Higher Education from UCLA. With over a decade of service as the Director of the Cooperative Institutional Research Program and Associate Director of the Higher Education Research Institute at UCLA, Dr. Sax has overseen numerous nationwide surveys on college students and faculty. Her research primarily focuses on gender differences in college student development, particularly in STEM fields for women. Dr. Sax has secured over $11 million in research funding and is currently the Principal Investigator on several studies aimed at enhancing diversity in undergraduate computing environments. Her work has garnered support from prominent organizations, including the National Science Foundation and the Executive Office of Melinda Gates. She has received multiple awards, including the Research Achievement Award from the Association for the Study of Higher Education in 2025 and was a Fellow at the Sudikoff Family Institute for Education and New Media. Dr. Sax has authored 125 publications, which reflect her commitment to advancing knowledge in higher education and supporting diverse student populations in computing disciplines.
