Biography

Lisa Barnoff is currently the interim vice-dean for Community, Culture, and Belonging at the School of Medicine at Toronto Metropolitan University. She has been a faculty member since 2003, when she joined as an assistant professor in the School of Social Work. In 2006, she was awarded early tenure and later took on academic leadership roles, including serving as the associate director of field education and subsequently as the director of the School of Social Work from 2011 to 2016. Barnoff also held the position of dean of the Faculty of Community Services from 2016 to 2021. She is recognized for her collaborative and progressive leadership style, particularly in engaging communities and promoting equity and inclusion. Her research focuses on anti-oppressive practices, social service delivery, LGBT health, and social work education. Throughout her teaching career, she has emphasized anti-oppression and field practicum courses in the undergraduate program and has taught major research seminars at the graduate level.
