Biography

Dr. Tabil started in the Department of Agricultural and Bioresource Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan as an Assistant Professor in August 2000 and was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 2004. He became a Professor and was appointed Head of the department in 2008. In 2010, the Department of Agricultural and Bioresource Engineering merged with the Department of Chemical Engineering, leading to the formation of the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering. Prior to his academic role, Dr. Tabil worked as a Research Engineer at the Agricultural Value-added Engineering Centre in Alberta from October 1997 to July 2000, where he dealt with various client-based projects focused on postharvest technology and value-added processing of agricultural products. His research interests include bioprocess engineering and value-added engineering in postharvest handling of crops, as well as applied research related to agricultural product processing, storage, and drying. Recently, he has been working on projects related to biomass densification and biorefinery conversion of lignocellulosic waste into bioproducts. Dr. Tabil is a member of the Canadian Society of Bioengineering and the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers, and he is a registered Professional Engineer in Saskatchewan and Alberta.
