Biography

Lorena S. Grundy is a Practice Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Princeton University in 2017 and her Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley in 2022. Her doctoral research focused on the investigation of ion transport and morphology in polymer electrolytes for lithium metal batteries. Following her Ph.D., she transitioned into engineering education research as a postdoc at Tufts University, supported by the American Society for Engineering Education. At Penn, she is developing curriculum and programming related to energy sustainability for both undergraduate and graduate students, weaving together her interests in sustainable energy technologies and engineering education. Her research interests broadly encompass enhancing undergraduate and graduate education in energy sustainability, particularly through the implementation of active learning pedagogies. Additionally, she investigates student epistemologies, focusing on the interplay of ideas, values, and knowledge in relation to instructor decision-making and pedagogical innovation in engineering education.
