Biography

Lorenzo Cantoni graduated in Philosophy and holds a PhD in Education and Linguistics. He is a full professor at USI - Università della Svizzera italiana in Lugano, Switzerland, where he serves as the director of the Institute of Digital Technologies for Communication. His research interests encompass communication, the intersection of education and new media, including computer-mediated communication, usability, eLearning, eTourism, digital Fashion, ICT for Development (ICT4D), and eGovernment. He holds the UNESCO chair on ICT to develop and promote sustainable tourism at World Heritage Sites, which he established at USI in 2013. Additionally, he is a board member of the World Heritage Experience Switzerland (WHES) and has directed the Master in Digital Fashion Communication in collaboration with Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, as well as the Master in International Tourism. Cantoni previously served as the Dean of the Faculty from 2010 to 2014 and as USI's Pro-rector for Education and Students' Experience from 2018 to 2023. He also held the position of Deputy (acting) Rector from May 2022 to June 2023 and was President of IFITT - International Federation for IT and Travel & Tourism from 2014 until January 2018.
