In 2015, he was awarded the Loy Andrew Gonzalez Distinguished Professorial Chair in Linguistics and Language Education by the Linguistic Society of the Philippines. His research interests lie at the intersection of sociolinguistics, focusing on multilingualism and social participation. He investigates language features at the micro level, language use at the macro level, and the contexts of multilinguals in diasporic homelands, particularly in family, education, health, and law domains. His research aims to illuminate the sociolinguistic factors that affect the maintenance of heritage languages among migrants from languages other than English (LOTE), exploring the barriers they face and potential solutions for full social participation. Employing corpus and ethnographic approaches in his work, Lising contributes significantly to the understanding of linguistic influences within migrant and minority language interactions.
