Biography

Luis Garicano returned in summer 2023 to the London School of Economics as a Full Professor at the School of Public Policy. He started his academic career at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, achieving the rank of Full Professor in Economics and Strategy over ten years at the London School of Economics. He has served as head of the Managerial Economics and Strategy Group. Additionally, Garicano has been a visiting professor at institutions such as MIT, Columbia Business School, and the London Business School. He has held roles as an economist with the European Commission and McKinsey & Company, and he has held a named chair at the FEDEA foundation. His research has appeared in leading academic journals in economics such as the Quarterly Journal of Economics and the American Economic Review. His research interests include the impact of organization and technology on aggregate economic variables like wage distribution, productivity, and economic growth. He has studied how organizations design themselves and the role of specific digital technologies in transforming the economy, including aspects of business-to-business electronic commerce and enterprise resource planning.
