Biography

Luiz Ferraretto originally from Brazil earned a B.S. in Animal Science from São Paulo State University in 2008. After completing his B.S. degree, he joined the University of Wisconsin-Madison for an internship in 2009, followed by an M.S. in Dairy Science in 2011 and a Ph.D. in 2015 with a focus on applied dairy nutrition and forage quality. After his Ph.D., he worked as a Post-doctoral Research Associate at the William H. Miner Agricultural Research Institute from 2016 to 2020. He then served as an Assistant Professor in Livestock Nutrition at the University of Florida before joining the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2020. His research and extension interests lie in applied ruminant nutrition management, specifically improving starch and fiber utilization in dairy cows, evaluating corn silage and high-moisture corn quality and digestibility, using alternative by-products as feed ingredients, and developing on-farm laboratory techniques for forage feed analysis.
