Biography

Lyndsay Hughes is a Reader in Health Psychology and Programme Director of the MSc Health Psychology at King's College London. She completed her BSc in Psychology at the University of Hertfordshire in 2007 and was awarded a 1+3 ESRC CASE studentship collaboration with the Early Rheumatoid Arthritis Network. This allowed her to complete an MSc in Research Methods in Psychology before embarking on a PhD investigating the psychosocial aspects of medication non-adherence in rheumatoid arthritis. After completing her PhD in 2011, Dr. Hughes worked as a post-doctoral research fellow in the Diabetes Nutritional Sciences Division at King's College London, where she developed a new food-related quality of life measure for patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Dr. Hughes has been instrumental in establishing the MSc Health Psychology programme and her research focuses on the adjustment to living with long-term conditions, focusing on treatment adherence and managing distress. She collaborates with multidisciplinary teams across various fields and has developed digital interventions in mHealth. Her clinical interests include autoimmune conditions, oncology, HIV, heart failure, and diabetes. She is also involved with the British Psychological Society’s Division for Health Psychology Training Committee.
