Professor Hasan joined the Department of Law and Legal Studies at Carleton University in July 2020. He holds a Ph.D. in Law from Osgoode Hall Law School, an MA in Legal Studies from Carleton University, and an LL.B. from the University of Dhaka. Before moving to Canada, he taught undergraduate and graduate courses at Bangladeshi law schools. He has experience in policy research, having worked with the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI), a think-tank organization based in Waterloo, Ontario, where he served as a resident fellow for several years and participated in CIGI's International Law Research Program. His Ph.D. research focused on the environmental decision-making processes of Indigenous peoples in the context of resource development projects, particularly how disadvantaged communities in the global South respond to mining conflicts. He explored the dynamics of corporate corruption in home and host states, with an analysis of a transnational coal project in Bangladesh. Hasan is also a social activist advocating for the rights of Indigenous peoples and racial and ethnic minorities. His future research is concerned with toxic colonialism and the state’s responsibility to regulate corporations. He enjoys photography and trekking in the mountains. At Carleton University, he teaches courses on Persons and Property, Intellectual Property, Regulation of Corporate Crime, and International Organizations.
