Maren Oelbermann is a Professor at the University of Waterloo, where she leads the Soil Ecosystem Dynamics Research Group. Her research is focused on the impact of climate change on plant-soil ecosystems, restoration of marginal and degraded lands, and sustainable agricultural practices, including permaculture, intercropping, agroforestry, and organic farming. Maren aims to enhance knowledge of the environmental processes occurring within plant-soil ecosystems and to understand how natural, managed, and restored ecosystems can help mitigate and adapt to climate change. Her research team employs novel advanced techniques to investigate future changes in soil-plant interactions in the context of global change scenarios. In addition to her research, Maren teaches courses related to forest ecosystem management and soil ecosystem dynamics in tropical ecosystems. She has a cross-appointment with the Department of Geography and Environmental Management and has served as Special Graduate Faculty at the University of Guelph.
