Biography

Margaret Shih serves as the Interim Dean and holds the Neil H. Jacoby Chair at the UCLA Anderson School of Management. Her research centers on the impact of diversity within organizations, with a specific focus on the psychological effects of social identity, stereotypes, prejudice, and stigma. Shih has published research on political polarization and its effects on perceptions of democracy. Appointed interim dean on July 1, 2025, she has previously served as the department chair for Management Organizations and as the deputy dean for academic affairs. Since joining the faculty in 2008, she has played a vital role in recruiting new faculty and updating the school’s bylaws. Additionally, Shih is a special advisor on equity, diversity, and inclusion at UCLA and has extensive administrative experience in addressing issues related to diversity and equity. Before her tenure at UCLA, she taught at the University of Michigan for eight years and worked with the RAND Corporation. Shih is actively involved in various academic committees and editorial boards, including the International Society for Self and Identity.
