Biography

María Datel studied Literature with a focus on Argentine Latin American literature at the University of Buenos Aires. She has taught Semiotics, Latin American Literature, and Spanish Grammar in Argentina. Additionally, María has contributed to a literary magazine and ran a radio program, as well as participated in a literacy campaign in Paraguay. Since moving to Boston in 1999, she has been teaching Spanish at Boston University, where she has also developed curriculum for native Spanish speakers at Simmons College and Kinsley Montessori School. At Boston University, María has served as the course coordinator for LS112 and LS300 level classes and has created courses such as 'Contar el Crimen' (Crime Writing) and 'Sailing Darwin Patagonia Beyond'. She is involved in BU’s Hispanic Voices Project, teaching Spanish to adults in disadvantaged neighborhoods with the objective of connecting the university community. Currently, María is the course coordinator for LS212 and teaches LS309, an intensive Spanish writing class for heritage speakers. She is particularly interested in pedagogy and works to create an inclusive curriculum, ensuring representation of underrepresented topics and fostering a classroom climate of tolerance and respect.
