Dr. Maria Hatzigianni

Biography

Maria Hatzigianni is a lecturer at Macquarie University specializing in Digital Technologies in Early Years Education. Her research primarily examines the use of technology among young children, particularly focusing on the associations between digital technologies and children's social-emotional development and creativity. She is also interested in the philosophy of technology, critical postmodern theories in early childhood education, and advocates for social justice in education. Maria is leading a funded research project that investigates early childhood educators’ beliefs about the use of touchscreen technologies among children aged 0-3 years. Additionally, she teaches various courses related to Early Childhood Education and is actively involved in professional communities, including Early Childhood Australia and the European Early Childhood Education Research Association. Maria has received significant academic recognition, including a research fellowship from the Collaborative Research Network and scholarships from both the University of Melbourne and the National Kapodistrian University of Athens.
