Dr. Marieke Thurlings

Biography

Marieke Thurlings is an Associate Professor in Learning Sciences at the Eindhoven School of Education (ESoE), Eindhoven University of Technology. Her areas of expertise include collaborative teacher professional development, face-to-face and online feedback, and professional learning communities, complemented by systematic literature reviews. Her research focuses on interaction processes among teachers and aims to further develop methodologies used in educational research. Marieke is dedicated to supporting (student) teachers in developing an academic and inquiry-based attitude. She is responsible for overseeing practice-based research involving master's students at ESoE and supervises postdoctoral and PhD projects. In the academic year 2024-25, she will participate in the Educational Leadership Program, an initiative under the EWUU alliance. From 2015 to 2024, she served as an Assistant Professor at ESoE, where she was responsible for courses on teacher practice-based research in the master's program and was involved in curriculum redesign. She co-supervised PhD candidates and chaired the program committee. Between 2013 and 2015, Marieke was a postdoctoral researcher at ESoE, conducting a review study based on a NWO/PROO grant focused on peer teacher professional development, aiming to identify success factors in innovation projects designed to enhance TU/e teachers' teaching skills. She earned her PhD from the Scientific Centre Teacher Research at the Dutch Open University in 2012, where she examined feedback processes among teachers engaged in face-to-face and online peer coaching as part of their professional development. Marieke holds both an MSc and BSc in educational studies from Leiden University.
