Biography

Marjolijn Heerings is an Assistant Professor in Health Care Governance at Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management, Erasmus University Rotterdam. She holds two MSc degrees in Medical Anthropology & Sociology and Clinical Psychology from the University of Amsterdam. After graduation, Marjolijn worked as a psychiatric aide in various psychiatric institutions in Amsterdam and as a junior researcher on the active citizenship project at the University of Amsterdam. She was involved in the implementation of a depression prevention program for the elderly aimed at improving hospital care quality through patient narratives at the Rathenau Instituut. Her PhD research focuses on participatory quality improvement in complex care relationships within long-term care, specifically the balance of self-management for frail clients. This research project seeks to develop qualitative methods to enhance the quality of complex care relationships and provide governance insights at the national level.
