Biography

Margie Yankeelov is currently a lecturer in the College of Fine Arts at the University of Texas at Austin, where she has been working in the Center for Music Human Learning since 2016. She teaches courses such as 'Piano Teachers' for music studies students, 'Fundamentals of Music: Piano' for non-majors, and 'Double Reed Methods' for upper division music studies students, and she hosts independent studies in ear training and directed research. Margie holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education and Oboe Performance from Belmont University, a Master of Music in Oboe Performance from the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati, and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Music Education from Boston University. Her research interests focus on the formation of auditory representations and the foundation of music comprehension, with a particular emphasis on music reading. Her teaching experiences span K-6 general music in Nashville, private double reed teaching in public schools, and music theory and music education courses at the School of Music at Belmont University, where she taught for 12 years. In addition to her teaching, Margie is an accomplished oboist with extensive freelancing and studio work in Austin, Nashville, and Cincinnati, having performed with various groups including the Austin Symphony and the Nashville Symphony, as well as collaborating with artists such as Wynonna Judd, Jewel, Donna Summer, Trey Anastasio, Sutton Foster, and Brave Old World.
