Dr. Martin Berinbaum

Biography

Martin Berinbaum is a Professor Emeritus at the University of British Columbia's School of Music, where he served for 32 years before retiring in 2008. He obtained his MSc from the Juilliard School after completing his undergraduate studies at the University of Southern California in 1969. Berinbaum has an illustrious career as a trumpet soloist and has performed with renowned orchestras, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Kiev Symphony. His collaboration with the English Chamber Orchestra on Haydn and Hummel concertos earned recognition as part of the 'President’s Collection' by White House High Fidelity Magazine. Berinbaum's impact in music extended beyond performance; he directed the UBC Bands since 1976 and initiated the UBC Summer Music Institute, fostering the development of young musicians. He has conducted the College Band Directors National Association conventions and played over 850 concerts across North America, while also touring internationally. His dedication to teaching and mentorship has profoundly influenced countless students throughout his career at UBC.
