Biography

Martin West is the Henry Lee Shattuck Professor of Education and Academic Dean at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. He is also a faculty research fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research and has served as the deputy director of the Program on Education Policy and Governance at the Harvard Kennedy School. His research interests focus on the politics of K-12 education in the United States, particularly how education policies affect student learning and non-cognitive development. West is actively involved in educational policy discussions and served as a senior education policy advisor to the ranking member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions. Previously, he taught at Brown University and worked as a research fellow at the Brookings Institution.
