Dr. Mary Brabeck

Biography

Mary M. Brabeck is a Professor Emerita in the Department of Applied Psychology at NYU Steinhardt. She served as the Dean of the Steinhardt School from 2003 to 2014 and retired from NYU in September 2020. A fellow of the American Psychological Association and the American Educational Research Association, she has published over 100 articles focusing on intellectual development, spatial skills, professional ethics, feminist ethics, and interprofessional education in teacher education. Brabeck was the vice-chair of the APA Ethics Committee in 2020-21 and chair from 2021 to 2022. She worked as the Editor-in-Chief of Psychology of Women Quarterly from 2016 to 2019. Her leadership roles include serving on the APA Board of Educational Affairs and chairing several significant boards, including the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education and the Board of Directors for the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation. Her accolades include an honorary degree from St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia, the Outstanding Achievement Award from the University of Minnesota, and the Leadership Award from the American Psychological Association Committee on Women in Psychology.
